# Update Anilife safely

> Check for signed Anilife updates, choose between stable and beta channels, and understand how urgent corrective builds reach devices.

Anilife checks its signed update sources and downloads the build made for your device. Stable updates are the default, while beta releases are optional tester builds.

## Choose an update channel

* **Stable:** Leave **Settings → App → Receive beta updates** off. The app checks only full releases.
* **Beta:** Turn **Receive beta updates** on. The app checks beta releases as well as stable releases. This setting is off by default.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Beta builds may be less stable. Use them when you intend to test and report problems.

## Check manually

**1. Open App settings**

Open **Settings**, then choose **App**.

**2. Choose the channel**

Set **Receive beta updates** to your preferred channel.

**3. Run the check**

Select **Check for updates**. If a build is available, review the version and install prompt.

**Check for updates on launch** controls whether Anilife prompts automatically when a new version is available. Turning it off does not remove the manual check.

A small corrective build can keep the same visible version and use a higher Android build number. Anilife shows that build in Settings so existing users can receive urgent fixes without an unnecessary new version name.

## Installation protection

Anilife verifies update metadata before offering a download. Android also requires an update APK to use the same application signing identity as the installed app and refuses a lower build number. If installation is refused, do not remove the installed app until you have protected any local data you need.
